The Ultimate Camino de Santiago Packing Guide

Everything You Need—and Nothing You Don’t—for the Journey of a Lifetime

Walking the Camino de Santiago is a life-changing experience—filled with breathtaking views, quiet reflection, and the joy of simplicity. Packing wisely is the first step toward enjoying every mile of the Way. This guide will help you choose the right gear, stay comfortable, and keep your backpack light so you can focus on the journey, not the weight on your shoulders.

Backpack Essentials

Your backpack becomes your home on the trail—choose one that fits well and feels balanced.

  • Backpack (30–40L) – Look for lightweight, supportive packs with a padded hip belt and ventilated back.

  • Rain cover – A must for unpredictable weather.

  • Dry sacks or zip pouches – For organization and moisture protection.

  • Waist pack/daypack – Keep valuables handy during rest stops or town visits.

Choose moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabrics that can be washed and dried overnight.
